Projection Studs
Projection - Stud Welding
Stud Welding Uses a highly controlled electrical current to weld a metal stud to a substrate. This process can range from welding threaded, non-threaded, and tapped Studs.

Sunstone Welders systems utilize very sophisticated control systems that allow for high levels of precision in Projection/ Stud Welding. This allows for a wide range of studs to be welded to an even wider range of base materials. Sunstone Utilizes both CD Stud welding technology, as well as Linear DC & HF Inverter welding technologies. This allows you to have the solution to get the job done right.
What is CD Projection – Stud Welding?
CD Stud Welding Uses a Capacitive Discharge Welding power supply that uses energy stored in Capacitors. Stored energy is released and passed through the stud, and travels to the base metal. At the contact point between the Stud and the base, there is less contact. This area generates heat through resistance and melts both the base metal and the stud. The energy used is released rapidly and highly controlled to allow for use on thin metals, even foils.
What are the advantages of CD Stud Welding?
The main advantage is no flux or ferrules are needed. Ideal when welding any Stainless Steels, and Mild Steels. Another Advantage to CD Stud welding is the cost is reduced on the initial investment. This allows you to get welding at a lower cost. A precision Stud welding hand-piece or weld head is required for repeated and production type environments. Check out our hand-pieces and our weld heads.
What is Linear DC & HF Inverter Stud Welding?
Linear DC & HF Inverter Stud welding uses higher precision & higher energy compared to CD welding to give more capabilities & Stronger welds. Similar to CD Stud Welding, both Linear DC and HF Welding use resistance to create heat at the joint of the stud and the base metal. However, with a much higher degree of control of how that energy is released both options allow for more desired weld results, and more customizable options.
What are the Advantages of DC & HF Inverter Stud Welding?
Greater penetration, higher max welding thickness, and the ability to weld very small studs or studs to fine base metals are a few of the advantages. The level of control allows for adjustment of the upslope of the weld, as well as the downslope. This customization of weld settings will allow you to get the precise amount of melt without causing any damage or residual heat. And there is no need for any flux or shielding. No need to use a ceramic ring. Save time & Money, and boost production.
